Petanque (fr. Pétanque) is a sport of French origin. It was born in Provence in the early 20th century as a more accessible version of the traditional boules game. The goal is to throw metal balls (700–800 g) as close as possible to the small target ball called "cochonnet". The game continues until a team reaches the required number of points, usually played on sand or gravel. Petanque is suitable for all ages and requires minimal resources.
